TGS, together with partners PGS and SLB, has secured pre-financing for the expansion of multi-client 3D coverage in the Sarawak Basin, off the coast of Malaysia.
The company said the survey is the third phase of a multi-year contract awarded by Petronas in August 2020 to acquire and process up to 40,500 square miles of multi-client 3D seismic data over a five-year period in the Sarawak Basin .
The first phase of Sarawak’s multi-client 3D project covered 3,240 square miles, followed by an additional 2,600 square miles during Phase 2.
“The Sarawak basins are one of the most exciting exploration hotspots in Southeast Asia, with numerous oil and gas discoveries announced in recent months. TGS is pleased to announce Phase 3 of the multi-client Sarawak program, which will support the growing exploration interest of energy companies in this region.Malaysia remains a key part of our multi-client data library and together with our partners we look forward to providing high-quality seismic data in the basins of Sarawak,” said TGS CEO Kristian Johansen.
“Exploration interest in the Sarawak Basin is strong and I am very pleased to have secured pre-funding for phase three, with mobilization commencing alongside the completion of phase two. The Sarawak Basin consists of of a proven petroleum system with many By acquiring multi-client data with our Ramform vessels and GeoStreamer technology, PGS and its partners will provide regional-scale, high-quality seismic data that will improve regional understanding of petroleum systems,” says the President and CEO of PGS, Rune Olav Pedersen. .
TGS said the Ramform Sovereign vessel is expected to be mobilized by the end of August, covering approximately 2,050 square miles for Phase 3, with acquisition completion expected by the end of November 2023.
Petronas, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), is actively improving its datasets that will introduce new plays to be explored, particularly in imaging the Middle Miocene Unconformity (MMU) play ) in the deep-water area of the Sarawak Basin, TGS noted. . This enhancement will enable clients to effectively evaluate potential exploration opportunities and participate in the Malaysian bidding round, the company said.
