Shell UK Ltd has informed Deltic Energy that site survey work associated with the location of the Selene exploration well has commenced, Deltic revealed in a press release.
Shell has confirmed that a geophysical survey vessel has been mobilized to acquire high-resolution 2D seismic lines over the proposed well location, Deltic said in the statement.
Deltic emphasized that the seismic acquisition is expected to be completed before the end of August. The acquired data will then be used to inform the geotechnical survey, which will further help determine the exact location and placement of the platform, Deltic revealed.
“Commencement of site study at Selene is another important step on the way to drilling this high-impact, low-risk prospect in the southern North Sea,” said Graham Swindells, chief executive of Deltic Energy, in a company statement.
“We look forward to working with Shell as we continue to advance the well design ahead of scheduled drilling operations in mid-2024,” he added.
The Selene Prospect is considered one of the largest unassessed structures in the Southern Gas Basin’s Leman Sandstone Street, according to Deltic, which estimates Selene to contain gross P50 potential resources of 318 BCF of gas (with a P90 to P10 range of 132 to P10). 581 BCF) with a geological probability of success of 70 percent.
Under the terms of the original farm with Shell, Deltic has a 50 percent working interest in the license but will pay 75 percent of the costs of drilling and testing the well at the Selene prospect, up to a cost $25 well gross. millions
