Beach Energy has opted for experience with the appointment of Brett Woods as its new general manager and CEO. Woods will assume his role on February 21, 2024 or such other date as may be mutually agreed upon, Beach Energy said in a media release.
Woods has more than 25 years of upstream oil and gas experience, including the most recent 10 years at Santos, where he served in various executive roles, including chief operating officer, vice president of development and business unit vice president of Eastern Australia.
“Brett is a seasoned oil and gas executive with a track record of strong leadership, delivering operational excellence, project delivery and shareholder value creation. He is a highly experienced oil and gas technical leader with the skills and background to continue to strengthen our culture of performance and operational delivery,” said Beach President Glenn Davis.
“Beach is in a fantastic position with a strong portfolio of assets and a strong balance sheet. I am excited to join at a time when I can help the team deliver on current projects, drive operational excellence and grow the business,” Woods said.
In the interim, current non-executive director Bruce Clement has been appointed interim chief executive officer (CEO) and will continue as executive director. The company said that Morné Engelbrecht has ended his term as CEO.
“Morné excelled in his role as CFO and took over as CEO at an uncertain time and has since guided the company through a number of operational challenges. Despite these challenges, our project continues moving forward and Morné should be proud of his contribution to Beach. He leaves the company in good shape, as evidenced by recent strong quarterly results. On behalf of the board I thank him for his commitment and hard work,” he said Davis.
On 24 July, Beach Energy announced that Ryan Stokes had been appointed as a non-executive director and that Margaret Hall had stepped down as a non-executive director and had been appointed as Stokes’ alternate director.
