Trillion Energy International Inc. has announced more than 130 feet of clean gas with commercial prospects in a sixth well in the SASB field offshore Turkey.
“Preliminary gas indications based on mud logging results suggest [sic] + They pay 40 meters of potential natural gas within 6 separate sands in the Akcakoca Member (SASB producing area),” the Canadian-based company said in a press release this week.
Drilling of the Alapli 2 well reached nearly 10,700 feet, he said.
“The next step is to run and cement the 7″ production casing and then drill the production zones,” Trillion said. Completion of drilling and flow test results will be announced next week.
“The offset exploration well Alapli-1 drilled several years ago (but never produced) tested 7.1 MMcf/d [million cubic feet a day] of a set of three zones with a measured thickness of 15 meters [49.21 feet]”, says the announcement.
Chief executive Arthur Halleran said: “The Alapli 2 gas well gives us 6 successful wells for 6 activities at SASB during our initial project, which was fully funded through capital increases obtained last year as well as revenues from gas production.”
“The success of this technically challenging project has put the spotlight on Trillion, attracting new and exciting opportunities that will be detailed over the coming weeks,” he added.
The well is in the SASB field, where Trillion is targeting production from 11 wells this year.
The developer calls the field, in the southwestern Black Sea, one of the largest offshore gas development projects. Trillion has a program of about 20 wells in the development of the field, where it owns 49 percent.
SASB hosts “numerous” shallow-water pools of conventional gas and since initial development in 2007 has produced more than 43 Bcf, according to Trillion’s website.
“The SASB gas field is producing a critical domestic supply of natural gas during the energy crisis currently affecting Europe,” the site states.
SASB produced an average of 7.75 MMcfd per day in the first quarter, as Trillion collected more than $2.27 million in net revenue after natural gas sales hit a new quarterly record of $6.15 million, the company reported on May 30.
On June 22, Trillion announced the restart of production at the West Akcakoca 1 well, increasing its output to 5.3 MMcfd.
This restart follows the start of production at another SASB well, Bayhanli 2, with initial flows of 8.0 to 9.0 MMcf/d, as announced by Trillion on June 1.
In October, Trillion said it had secured full financing to increase natural gas production at SASB for Europe, pointing to the shutdown of Nord Stream and other shutdowns.
“This supply is essential, as there are multiple sources of gas that Europe previously depended on [to] go offline, such as the Nord Stream I and II pipelines, which are now non-operational, suffered explosions last week [September 26, 2022, as reported by owner Nord Stream AG] and the Groningen field, owned by ExxonMobil and Shell, has been forced to cut production by the Dutch government to less than 2 BCM in 2023, down from 4+ BCM in 2022,” Trillion said on Oct. 4.
