Energy construction and engineering solutions provider McDermott has secured work on the North Field production sustainability project. The company has been contracted by Qatargas to provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) for the offshore fuel pipeline and submarine cable project, known as COMP1.
The COMP1 project is part of the NFPS Offshore Compression Project which involves the installation of new assets in the North Field of Qatar, including compression complexes at seven locations to maintain gas supply to liquefied natural gas (LNG) production trains. existing in the future, McDermott said in a statement.
The contract award follows McDermott’s 2022 North Field Expansion Project (NFXP) contract, which is currently underway and remains one of McDermott’s largest contract awards in its history, the company said .
The contract, also for EPCI, is for the North Field East (NFE) Topsides and North Field East Offshore Pipelines and Subsea Cables projects, with an option included for the North Field South (NFS) Offshore Topsides.
In August 2022, McDermott secured QatarEnergy’s front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the North Field South Offshore Pipelines and Power/FO cables project.
The latest contract, dubbed by McDermott as important, is valued between 750 and 1.5 billion dollars.
“The COMP1 award reflects the confidence key clients have in our ability to deliver strategically significant energy infrastructure projects in the Middle East,” said Mike Sutherland, McDermott Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East. “As we continue to make progress on the NFXP offshore contract awarded to us last year, we are helping the State of Qatar expand LNG production from 77 to 126 MTPA. [million tons per annum] through the new LNG trains under construction. We are delighted to deliver this key pipeline and cable infrastructure and support the extension of the existing LNG train production plateau.”
“Our continued commitment to Qatar, building an end-to-end execution capability in the country and significantly enhancing the local manufacturing platform through QFAB, the McDermott-Nakilat joint venture manufacturing yard in Qatar, will support continued energy development in the region,” he said. Neil Gunnion, Qatar Country Manager and Vice President of Operations.
According to McDermott, the scope of the contract includes the installation of 118 miles (190 kilometers) of 32″ diameter subsea pipelines, 11 miles (17 kilometers) of submarine composite cables, 116 miles (186 kilometers) of fiber cables optics and six miles (10 kilometers) of onshore pipelines. The project will be managed and designed entirely by McDermott’s Doha office and manufacturing will take place at QFAB.
