Gas South has formed a dedicated customer line with a utility technical service provider, offering Georgia households lower costs for pipe repair and other home energy needs.
“After receiving many inquiries from our natural gas customers regarding plumbing installation and other services, we recognized a unique opportunity to partner with Coolray, a trusted local service provider who could provide the additional services they require our customers,” Gas South president and CEO Kevin Greiner said in a joint news release Tuesday.
The deal with Coolray Heating & Air Conditioning “marks the first time a natural gas supplier and home utility company have teamed up to offer shared savings to customers in the Atlanta market,” the announcement said.
“Coolray’s extensive commercial service teams can quickly service and repair natural gas pipes for Gas South customers and help lower their energy bills through attic insulation and ventilation services from Coolray,” commented Coolray Chairman Christopher Bean.
Gas South consumers also get discounts on Coolray products such as water heaters and HVAC systems.
Meanwhile, Coolray customers are being offered benefits for signing up to Gas South, including a 10-month $10 bill credit.
To secure natural gas’s place in the state’s energy mix, Georgia passed a law in 2021 that prohibits local governments from “adopting any policy that prohibits the connection or reconnection of any utility based on the type or source of energy or fuel”, as stated in the text of the legislation.
Gas South claims a membership of more than 425,000 residential, business and government customers, which the company says makes it the largest retailer in the southeastern US.
In 2020 it completed the purchase of Infinite Energy. Infinite Energy sold to Gas South its wholesale and retail natural gas business, whose market was concentrated in Florida and Georgia, according to a press release from Gas South on December 31, 2020.
Meanwhile, Coolray’s operations are in Alabama and Georgia, serving a total of more than 100 counties, according to its website.
The 11 southeastern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia) accounted for more than 8.06 million cubic feet (MMcf) of consumption national of more than 30.66 MMcf in 2021. , according to data published by the Energy Information Administration on May 31.
