June 8 (Reuters) – The pilots of the Air India plane that was stranded in Russia had received an indication of low oil pressure in one engine, forcing them to land at a nearby airport, it said Thursday the airline.
Air India’s replacement flight to transfer passengers to the original destination of San Francisco landed on Thursday, and the airline mobilized additional support to carry out clearance procedures for passengers on arrival, he said.
The 216 passengers and 16 crew members of the original stranded plane had been staying in makeshift accommodation at the remote Magadan airport in Russia.
The Magadan facilities “may not have been up to the standard” that Air India normally aims to provide, the airline said in a letter apologizing to passengers for the delay in arriving in San Francisco.
Angry passengers had complained on Wednesday about inadequate food in their accommodation, which they said looked like a school.
The Boeing ( BA.N ) 777 plane was en route from Delhi to San Francisco before it was diverted on Tuesday.
