He was involved in an accident and even though he had a police report that said the other driver was at fault, his insurance company refused to pay.
It was a long and frustrating process for Alfredo López. He was left without a car for several months, but now he can finally feel relieved that his case has been resolved.
Lopez described what happened the night of Oct. 24 last year as he was driving in San Bernardino County after a long day at work.
“Some lady didn’t see a red light and she went straight ahead and crashed into me,” said Alfredo Lopez.
The police were called to the scene. His car, he says, was undriveable and had to be towed. He says the police report showed what the investigation revealed.
“That I did not cause the accident; that she was at fault,” Lopez said.
So he contacted the other driver’s insurance company: Kemper. Although the police report showed that the other driver was at fault, they denied his claim.
“They still didn’t want to pay me or say their insured driver was at fault,” Lopez said.
He struggled for weeks without a car, without money to buy a new one and unable to go to work. Lopez said he was about to give up.
“After two months, he already told me that I won’t have a situation resolved about my car,” added Lopez.
His mother was frustrated and wanted to give him one last chance. He finally convinced him to contact NBC 7 Respons. After contacting Kemper, the insurance contacted Lopez.
“I felt relieved. I felt in awe,” Lopez said.
Kemper never explained why they thought Alfredo was at fault and said they could not discuss the case with us due to privacy.
Not only did Lopez get the full amount his car was worth, he also got reimbursed for the tow truck and all the days he missed work because he didn’t have a car. He received a total of almost $8,000.
