And almost 3000 Peugeot and Citroen compacts have been recalled to replace a timing belt.
Kia Australia has issued a product safety recall for more than 10,000 examples of the current fourth-generation Kia Carnival people mover launched Down Under in early 2021 and produced between 2020 and 2023 to correct a possible failure of the motorized sliding rear doors, which may not alert the occupants of their activation.
Powered rear doors are only available on the penultimate SLi and flagship Platinum grades, which account for the bulk of Australia’s Carnival sales, and Kia says their potentially faulty activation warning poses a serious risk of occupant injury , especially to children.

Normally, the system emits a loud noise to let the driver and passengers know that the door is opening or closing.
Kia says the bug stems from a software failure and is urging all owners of the 10,046 affected vehicles to contact their preferred dealer to arrange a free software update “immediately”.

Peugeot 308, 208, 2008 and Citroen C3 Aircross, C3, C4 Cactus
Meanwhile, Australian Peugeot and Citroën dealer Inchcape has recalled 2212 examples of the 2008 Peugeot 308, 208, as well as 632 examples of the Citroën C3 Aircross, C3 and C4 Cactus (all produced between 2017 and 2020) to replace a timing belt distribution can degrade due to aged engine oil”.
All affected models shared the same small-capacity petrol powertrain but, interestingly, Inchcape says that “if [the timing belt is] if not repaired, may result in reduced or lost braking performance.”
“A reduction or loss of braking performance could increase the risk of a crash, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the recall notice said.
The two French brands are encouraging all affected owners to approach their preferred dealer to arrange a free repair.
