A Massachusetts homeowner is shocked after a car crashed into her kitchen Tuesday night.
Janice Downey’s refrigerator landed in her neighbor’s backyard after the vehicle hit her home in Marlboro. He said the crash sounded like an explosion.
“When I first heard the noise and went outside, my cat came running back and I said, ‘Something spooked her and she’s deaf,'” she said. “I knew something was very wrong, and then I just I saw the wall open.”
Downey says the car drove down her driveway on Ash Street, through her house and into her neighbor’s yard.
“We’re on a quiet little cul-de-sac here in Marlboro and I was very surprised to find the car in the back yard,” said neighbor Rich Anzalone.
According to Anzalone, his double stone wall prevented the car from crashing into his own house.
“To hit it and get down, and take it all out with that much force, you had to go pretty fast,” Anzalone said.
Other neighbors ran to help the neighbor. They say he was able to leave, but eventually left in an ambulance.
“The man was still in the car. A couple of gentlemen … helped him, got him out of the car,” Anzalone said.
“From what I understand, the officer said the driver has had medical issues in the past, but he never drives, he was always at home,” Downey said.
It was a close call and a terrifying experience for those involved.
“Things can be cleaned up and they can be taken care of, I’m just glad everyone’s OK,” Anzalone said. “It could have been worse.”
