The new Honda e:Ny1 is a small electric SUV charged with accelerating Honda’s pure electric vehicle sales in the UK. The new Honda e:Ny1 electric SUV, which will go on sale in the summer, with the first deliveries before the end of the year, aims to offer a much wider appeal than the somewhat niche Honda e city EV.
The new Honda e:Ny1 also takes aim at an ever-widening range of rivals. These include the current European Car of the Year, the new Jeep Avenger, plus the Vauxhall Mokka Electric, Peugeot e-2008, Kia Niro EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, MG ZS EV, and also future models such as the Volvo EX30 and Ford. Puma EV.
Honda has tested the water with the zero-emission Honda e. With the new Honda e:Ny1, the firm aims for electric cars to take up a fast-growing part of its UK sales.
Honda e:Ny1 2023 prices and release date
The new Honda e:Ny1 will be released for order later this summer. Honda bosses expect the first UK deliveries of the new Honda e:Ny1 to start before the end of 2023.
Pricing for the new Honda e:Ny1 has yet to be confirmed. The existing Honda HR-V costs around £30,000, while the new Jeep Avenger costs just under £36,000. As it has a larger battery pack than its main EV rivals, expect the new Honda e:Ny1 to start from around £40,000.
Style, interior and technology Honda e:Ny1 2023
The new Honda e:Ny1 is similar in appearance to the existing Honda HR-V hybrid. It has clean lines, hidden rear door handles and a sporty rake at the rear, giving it a sporty SUV look. Thick lower half and raised suspension will attract customers.
The new Honda e:Ny1 has a clean and uncluttered front end. It has a closed grille, with a large flap for the EV charging port hidden behind the Honda “H” badge. All Honda “H” badges, including those on the wheel centers, are white, to mark the firm’s pure electric models.
The new Honda HR-V gets tempered LED lights with black interiors and a crisp daytime running light on top. There is an additional hidden LED light strip that indicates the charging status of the car. A gloss black bottom section runs from the front, down the sides to the back.
At the rear, the new Honda e:Ny1 has a full-length LED light bar, which connects the pixelated LED taillights. It also has a new “Honda” typeface, which the firm says gives a premium look and will appear on all its future electric vehicles. There is also a new Honda e:Ny1 logo.
The design of the new Honda e:Ny1 is similar to the current Honda HR-V, albeit purified and modernized. Body colors will be contemporary, with stylish contrasting black roof colors. The new Honda e:Ny1 also has premium details such as bright polished alloy wheels and chrome underbody details.
Inside, the new Honda e:Ny1 has a similar dashboard architecture to the Honda HR-V, but the technology is all-new, with a huge portrait-style 15.1-inch touchscreen as center piece This is as eye-catching as the screens on luxury models like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model X. The screen is divided into three sections, for audio and navigation, electric vehicle charging and consumption information, and climate control.
However, the new Honda e:Ny1 retains physical buttons, with an array on the center console and also proper buttons on the steering wheel. Instead of a paddle shifter, drive is selected via chunky buttons on the center console, and there’s an electronic parking brake. This gives the board an uncluttered, open-plan look.
As on the Honda HR-V, the new Honda e:Ny1 has clever ‘diffuser-style’ air vents on each side of the dashboard. These give a more refined airflow throughout the cabin, rather than blasting occupants in the face with hot or cold air. It also includes LED ambient lighting.
The new Honda e:NY1 is likely to share the same spacious functionality as the Honda HR-V. Expect cavernous rear seat space, with legroom that’s up there with the class leaders, and a variation of the ultra-smart Honda Magic Seat to make the rear more practical.
The new Honda e:NY1 has a 346-litre boot, which is around 10% larger than the 335-litre boot of the Honda HR-V. It’s a spacious and practical space, although not as deep as petrol alternatives such as the Skoda Kamiq.
Electric motor Honda e:Ny1 2023, performance and autonomy
The new Honda e:Ny1 is built on an all-new platform called e:N Architecture F. This has three key attributes, Honda says: a custom high-rigidity body structure, a low center of gravity and aerodynamic underbody body optimized to increase efficiency. and rank
An electric motor mounted at the front of the new Honda e:Ny1 drives the front wheels. It is part of a three-in-one integrated power drive unit, electric motor and gearbox. It produces 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. Performance is expected to be slightly better than that of the current Honda HR-V, with 0-62mph likely to take around 8.0 seconds.
The new Honda e:Ny1 has a generous 68.8 kWh battery. That’s noticeably more than its rivals: the new Jeep Avenger has a 54 kWh battery, for example. Honda claims an electric range of 256 miles, which will be confirmed with official WLTP figures in the coming months.
DC fast charging will be standard with the new Honda e:Ny1. It is expected to offer fast charging functionality of up to 80 kW. This will mean that the 68.8 kWh battery can go from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes.
Engineers add the extensive use of the new Honda e:Ny1 high-strength steel, which is used on 47% of its body, helps improve torsional rigidity. This will increase comfort and refinement, as well as working with the low center of gravity to deliver dynamic handling.
“The e:Ny1 is the next logical step in our electrification journey in Europe,” said Tom Gardner, the company’s senior vice president. “Our development philosophy combines smart, customer-focused technology with beautiful design and fun-to-drive dynamics.”

Ask HJ
Can I use all-season tires on my electric vehicle?
My Kia e-Niro has Michellin Primacy 3 tires which perform poorly in the wet (they also have just over 2mm of tread). My other petrol cars have all season tires which are phenomenal but all cars are under 1300kg. Would Michellin Cross Climates be suitable for an electric vehicle or is the weight of the car the problem with my current tires?
Around 2mm of tread is close to the minimum limit of 1.6mm, so you’ll probably find these tires are past their prime, as the e-Niro puts a lot of torque into the its front wheels. You should be able to find all-season tires fairly easily – there are several brands now making EV-specific all-season tires with improved rolling resistance (increased range). Regular Michelin Cross Climates will do the job just fine, but be prepared for a loss of range of about five percent because they are more resistant to rolling.
