Surveillance video shows the moments when a group of about 15 masked robbers crashed a car into an electronics store and ransacked the place.
Melissa Delgado, manager of Mac Star Cameras & Electronics in Corona, said this is the seventh time the store has been robbed in the two years it’s been open. He said the police don’t seem to be doing anything.
Delgado said the latest hit-and-run happened last month.
“The security guard left at 5:30, so they knew 20 minutes later that they could go ahead and use the car to get in,” Delgado said.
He said the thieves were in and out in less than three minutes. In the video, they are seen rummaging through the register for cash, hoping to find something of value in the drawers and pulling many boxes off the shelves.
“Some of them took empty boxes, so they will be surprised. I’m sure they were surprised there wasn’t anything, but a lot of them were just grabbing whatever they could at the time,” Delgado said.
In the end, the robbery caused $65,000 in damage.
“Of course we have insurance. We are working with insurance, but it doesn’t happen right away where we can get money to do the repairs. We have to submit everything through them,” Delgado said.
Greater than the damage is the damage to your peace of mind.
Delgado said none of the people who have stolen from the business have ever been caught and are literally losing sleep over the next hit and run. The business has reported each crime, but they receive no follow-up from Corona police, he said.
“We’re getting really tired. I mean, it’s hard to sleep at night because you know something could happen,” Delgado said.
NBC4 reached out to the police department for a response, but did not immediately hear back.
