The answer is the GD3 Honda Jazz / Fit. This is 2007-2008 MY for Americans.
This echoes the rest of the people who suggest the Fit, except I want to specifically point out the first generation as it is the cheapest and also the smallest.
It costs nothing to buy – it’s invisible to whatever market forces are causing cheap old car prices to skyrocket. Used prices have not been affected at ALL.
It is light, small motor, relatively high speed, costs nothing to maintain. It’s available as a stick and, by virtue of its van-like interior configuration, it can be both a cargo van and a cozy camper for two adults in a pinch.
Adding a sway bar and doing a basic tune turns it into a cornering go-kart.
Comparatively safe: airbags all around and will support their own weight upside down on the roof.
The adjustment is to go.
The NSX was only in development for 4 plus years, with a picture of its own third-generation Fit:
The Honda Fit. Like most modern Hondas, they weren’t fully appreciated by the car crowd when they were available, but now that most Hondas from the golden era are gone, they’re finally starting to get noticed as the reincarnation of the hatch EF, EG and EK Civic. The photo above is mine – it was the first new car I bought and I plan to keep it until it finally dies.
