One man was killed and a second was seriously injured after the driver of the car they were in fled a car stop and crashed into a tractor trailer in a reckless getaway.
When officers pulled over the driver of the Honda on Riverside Drive in Upper Manhattan around 10:17 p.m. Wednesday, they sped off and police lost track of the car.
After an investigation, officers located the vehicle on Drake St. and Randall Ave. at Clason Point in the Bronx, where the driver had crashed into a parked and unoccupied tractor trailer, police said.
Responding officers found Jose Matos, 31, and another man, 29, conscious and alert with injuries inside, police said.
Medics took Matos, of the Bronx, to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
The 29-year-old man was taken to Lincoln Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver fled on foot before police arrived, and remains at large.
