A driver fled a car stop in Upper Manhattan and drove into the Bronx before crashing into a tractor-trailer, killing one of his passengers and seriously injuring another, police said.
Cops tried to pull over the Honda CR-V on Riverside Drive Wednesday afternoon, but the driver sped off and officers quickly lost sight of the vehicle, the NYPD said.
The motorcyclist made it to Drake Street and Spofford Avenue in Hunts Point before crashing into a parked and unoccupied tractor-trailer around 11:15 p.m., authorities said.
His 30-year-old passenger was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he died. Another rider, a 29-year-old man, was taken to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
The driver fled before police arrived and was still at large Thursday, authorities said.
In a separate crash days earlier, an 8-year-old girl was seriously injured by a speeding driver at Sutter and Christopher avenues in Brownsville, police said.
The girl was walking through that intersection with her 13-year-old brother and 16-year-old sister around 4:30 p.m. Monday when a speeding motorist in a gray Nissan Altima hit her, police said.
The driver fled onto Sutter Avenue and turned left onto Powell Street, police said.
The crash left the girl with a broken leg and a broken pelvis, police said. She was admitted to the Maimonides Medical Center, where she was in a stable condition.
