Powered by Yanmar diesel engines, these compact machines feature either a short tail turning radius (U) or an ultra-short tail turning radius with turning boom (USB).
Hitachi
Hitachi ZAXIS-5N compact excavators range from 1.7 to 6 metric tons (1.10 to 6.61 US tons) and are enhanced for attachment versatility and performance. Operators can complete work in congested urban areas thanks to the maneuverability of these compact machines that feature a short tail (U) turning radius or an ultra-short swing arm (USB) tail turning radius ).
“We continue to leverage the ability of our compact excavators to efficiently operate a wide selection of attachments. The recent updates to the ZAXIS-5N compact excavator further improve attachment performance,” said Kei Matsumoto, manager of compact excavator product from Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas.
ZAXIS-5N compact excavators are commonly used as tool carriers with a wide range of accessories. Several features support compatibility with attachments. For example, standard auxiliary hydraulic lines are pre-installed at the boom end of the ZX17U-5N and at the mid-arm of the ZX26U-5N on the ZX60USB-5N. A standard Wedgelock quick coupler makes connecting the connection a breeze. A factory-installed bracket for a thumb cylinder simplifies thumb installation.
The Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas The ZX30U-5N and ZX35U-5N compact excavators have been updated to include an auxiliary flow switch for attachment flexibility. The operator can adapt the flow of the auxiliary hydraulic circuit to the requirements of the attachment being used in a low or high setting.
An available Auxiliary Function Lever (AFL) includes an analog switch, a trigger switch, and a horn to operate accessories such as a breaker or swing accessory.
A standard dozer blade allows the ZAXIS-5N series to grade while providing stability. An optional angle blade is available on ZX35U-5N, ZX50U-5N and ZX60USB-5N excavators.
operation
All ZAXIS-5N series compact excavators are powered by Yanmar diesel engines. The ZX30U-5N to ZX60USB-5N compact excavators incorporate power and economy work modes. Power mode provides higher engine speeds for most general digging jobs, while Economy mode reduces engine speed for lighter digging jobs. An automatic idle system available on the ZX30U-5N to the ZX60USB-5N reduces emissions and noise.
Controls
Ergonomic hydraulic pilot valve control levers provide control. Full hydraulic pilot controls for bucket/thumb and other attachments, boom, swing, travel and blade promote control. Swing boom and folding travel pedals are positioned for operation.
Operator stations have wide entrances. An updated 3-in. Seat belt is available for operators.
durability
Compact excavators in the Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas The line is built to the same durability standards as larger machines operating in harsh conditions. Cylinders and hoses are well protected. ZAXIS-5N compact excavators feature a V-shaped boom cylinder guard and protected hoses on the boom and arm.
The ZX30U-5N to ZX60USB-5N feature a D-frame that protects the underside of the turntable from damage in demanding applications.
Maintenance
A hinged door provides open access to the oil cooler and radiator core from the side for cleaning. The engine cover slides vertically with less rear projection for maintenance in tight spaces.
Routine checks, such as the engine oil level, are carried out from ground level. Daily maintenance points are grouped behind the decks. Roll-up filters provide access for filter maintenance. At-a-glance indicators at ground level support daily inspection and service.
The top of the frame of the activated track Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Models from ZX30U-5N to ZX60USB-5N are tilted to remove mud. HN grease impregnated bearings and pins provide 500 hour lubrication intervals.
To reduce the cost of repair, the traditional curved glass used in the cabin has been changed to obtainable flat glass.
The upgraded ZX30U-5N to ZX60USB-5N compact excavators are now pre-wired for compatibility with the fleet’s existing telematics system. They can be connected to Global e-Service, which remotely monitors operational status and alerts owners of upcoming maintenance and repair needs based on error codes. The hours counter and the information of the position of the captured machine allows the management of the fleet.
all Hitachi ZAXIS-5N compact excavators now come with a battery disconnect switch that prevents battery discharge during long-term storage. This eliminates the need to disconnect the battery cables.
