The Honda Pilot is one of the most durable SUVs
The numbers are in, and we were a little surprised to see the Honda Pilot at the top of the list of longest-lasting vehicles. Although Honda has a reputation for reliability, it’s usually talked about with the sedans or CR-V.
According to iSeeCars, the Pilot is among the 10 vehicles most likely to reach 250,000 miles or more. The list includes 23 stellar choices, and the Pilot landed in sixth place.
It has a 42.7% chance of exceeding 250,000 miles and is 3.6 times more likely than the average vehicle to last that long. It’s ahead of the Toyota Tacoma, which has a 41.7% chance.
The Toyota Sequoia beat it with a 47.1% chance, and the Toyota Land Cruiser is the longest-running SUV with a 47.9% chance of exceeding 250,000 miles.
The Pilot is therefore among the top three most durable SUVs. Additionally, the Ford Expedition, Chevy Suburban, Dodge Durango and Chevy Tahoe are not listed.
To calculate these numbers, iSeeCars analyzed more than 260 million cars sold between 2012 and 2022. The average mileage reading was calculated for each vehicle based on annual age.
A proprietary model was then developed based on average miles to determine the probability that each vehicle would meet certain vehicle thresholds.
How many miles will a pilot last?
The average Honda Pilot model can get between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. Sometimes they go up to 250,000 miles before they need serious repairs. Also, with proper care and regular maintenance, it’s not unusual for the Pilot to reach 400,000 miles.
The Pilot is considered a high mileage vehicle, around 150,000 miles, although it could have a lot of life. That’s when the chances of more serious problems and repairs increase.
If you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year, your Pilot could provide about 16 to 20 years of service on the road.
Keys to success include changing oil, engine fluids and filters on a regular basis. Also, drive non-aggressively and have your vehicle serviced immediately when a problem occurs. Waiting to diagnose and correct a problem could make it much worse.

The 2023 Honda Pilot has an above average reliability rating. It got a score of 81 out of 100 from JDPower. Scores between 81 and 90 are above average, and anything between 91 and 100 is better.
