SPANAWAY, Wash. — A driver is dead and a passenger is injured after a high-impact crash into a home near Spanaway.
The car struck a home on 225th Street Court East near 46th Avenue East early Thursday.
Sometime after losing control, the car overturned.
The woman driving was killed and a man who was a passenger was seriously injured.
The impact turned the front of the car into a pile of twisted metal.
Neighbors said around 1:30 or 2 a.m. they heard and heard a loud boom.
Some went outside to help and said when they looked inside the car they immediately knew the accident was tragic.
Neighbors said the man who survived was trapped inside the car.
“The engine was pretty much pushed into the compartment … it didn’t even look like a car inside. The front seat was pushed into the back seat,” said neighbor David King.
King said crashes in the area are an ongoing problem.
“So this intersection of 46th and 224th, they put a light here not too long ago. There was a wreck here every two weeks. . . . So finally, the county came in and put a light in. But the problem is that the light, it’s not enough. This road, we’ve complained about this road, this road has a lot of speed every day,” King said.
The house hit by the car has significant damage, even to the roof.
“The only way they could get that far in the air … they had to do 100 miles an hour,” King said.
Detectives with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the car was not stolen and there were no signs of impairment.
