The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) has named Halliburton and Oil States International as winners of the 2023 NOIA Safety in Seas Awards competition. Halliburton is the winner of the 2023 NOIA Safety in Seas Safety Practice Award and Oil States is being recognized for the NOIA Safety in Seas Award. Seas Culture of Safety 2023.
The Safety Practices Award recognizes specific technologies, approaches, methods or projects with direct and demonstrable impacts on improving safety, NOIA said in its statement. The Safety Culture Award recognizes the organization’s overall immersion and commitment to safety, which has resulted in remarkable, measurable and sustained safety performance over an extended period of time, NOIA added.
“The success of American offshore energy demonstrates that safety is a collective effort. The Safety in Seas entries showcase the full spectrum of offshore energy companies, including those in the oil and gas segments, wind and service and supply, while prioritizing safety in their operations. In particular, Halliburton and Oil States have taken an expansive approach to safety, implementing programs and processes that result in safety performance improvements both across company as in the industry. We thank all applicants for their strong contributions and unwavering commitment to safety and safety innovation,” says NOIA President Erik Milito.

Halliburton is recognized with the Safety Practice Award for its risk management programs and 5 Go Controls, which are part of Halliburton’s “Journey to ZERO” vision of achieving zero safety incidents, zero environmental incidents and zero time unproductive said GIRL.
Using a digital delivery platform and the 5 Checks to Go program to standardize safety processes, Halliburton reduced its lost-time injury rate from the previous year and improved service quality, achieving the best-ever performance of non-productive time, NOIA pointed out. Halliburton also shared its Risk Management and 5 Checks to Go programs with other companies during various energy industry forums.
NOIA added that Oil States is recognized by the Culture of Safety Award for the set of overlapping processes designed to improve safety performance across the company’s global operations. These processes include: executive engagement and monitoring; clear communication of the vision; development and implementation of structured management systems (including training tools, monitoring, reporting and security analysis); and each employee’s consistently applied commitment to protecting themselves and others. Since 2013, Oil States has achieved dramatic reductions in the number of injuries and lost time events across its roster, NOIA noted.
