YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New vehicle sales to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties increased in April compared to the same period a year ago, according to the latest report from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.
The organization reports that auto dealers sold 2,071 new cars and trucks last month, compared to 1,881 in April 2022, an increase of 10%. An earlier version of this story was based on an initial version of the dealers’ report that excluded Chevrolet and Buick GMC vehicle sales from Cochran #1, formerly Sweeney, in Boardman. These sales have been added to reflect more accurate figures.
No. 1 Cochran Chevrolet, formerly Sweeney Chevrolet, posted the highest new vehicle sales in April at 116, according to the report.
Fred Martin Ford reported the second best-selling new models with 106, according to the dealer report. Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported 102 sold; Ken Ganley Kia of Boardman and Cochran Buick GMC No. 1 posted the fourth highest sale with 94; Boardman Subaru reported 89 new vehicle sales; and Toyota of Boardman and Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac of Salem each sold 79 new vehicles.
Sales of used vehicles, however, fell sharply compared to April 2022, the report shows.
Dealerships sold 1,744 used cars and trucks to area residents in April, compared with 2,070 in the same period last year, a 15.7 percent decline, the report said.
Combined new and used vehicle sales were down 2.6% in April compared to a year earlier.
