Sri Lankan Ambassador to China Dr Palitha Kohona opened a center to promote cooperation between traditional Chinese and Sri Lankan medicine in Wudangshan at a conference of TCM practitioners.
Wudangshan is a key center of China’s Taoist tradition, and many claim that Dao philosophy is a central influence on China’s traditional medicine system. Taoism advocates a holistic approach to life and a balanced lifestyle.
Many of the traditional medicine practitioners who participated in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference in Wudangshan were Daoists. Wudangshan is visited by thousands of devotees. In a moving display of religious fervor, the very old and the very young climb the steep steps to the sacred Xuanwu Temple atop Wudang Mountain. The current temple was built during the Ming Dynasty.
Addressing the Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference, the Ambassador described the traditional medicine of Sri Lanka and said that the traditional medicine tradition of Sri Lanka has a history of more than 3,000 years.
Many Chinese did not know that traditional medicine, as in China, plays an important role in people’s daily lives. Many Sri Lankans still rely on ancient remedies that are effective.
As close friends, China and Sri Lanka already cooperate in many other areas of mutual interest. Cooperation in traditional medicine will help to further strengthen the areas in which we cooperate.
Dr. Kohona hoped that more traditional Chinese medicine practitioners would participate in China-Sri Lanka traditional medicine cooperation, so as to provide a wider range of health benefits to the two peoples and bring new opportunities for health tourism in the two countries
He that Sri Lanka’s tourist attractions are not limited to healthcare. Sri Lanka’s Ceylon black tea and cool, tea-covered mountains, its own tea culture, Sri Lankan gems, especially blue sapphires, travel opportunities for weddings and honeymoons, Buddhist culture of two thousand years and the monuments still visited by thousands, business investment opportunities, it could be mentioned. He also invited the commercial vehicle industry in Shiyan City to consider opening a branch plant in Sri Lanka.
