A YouTuber who bought a flooded McLaren P1 is now trying to rebuild the $2 million supercar.
YouTuber Tavarish bought the flooded McLaren for $575,000 after it was sensationally destroyed in Hurricane Ian last year.
“If you’re like me and you saw the video of the McLaren P1 being ripped from the garage by hurricane flood waters and dragged down the street, you got sick to your stomach,” he said.
“But even in that wrecked state, that car was still my ultimate dream car.”

After buying the car at auction, he towed it to his workshop and got to work.
“Today we’re going to find out if this engine is really good,” he said.
“But before we go into the engine, we have to make sure all that sand, dirt and glass is dealt with.
“So we’ll clean that up first and then we can get into that engine and see if there’s any water.
“I’ll need lots of crossed fingers and good wishes. Pray for me.”
At first, everything seemed relatively clean, but it wasn’t long before their exploratory mission discovered water, bacteria, and mold.
Using a small camera and digital screen, Tavarish even found sea foam in a cylinder.
Despite this, he said all damage can be fixed.
“This just needs a really good color,” he said.
Tavarish used Marvel’s mysterious oil to break up the bacteria and lubricate the cylinders, leaving it there for a couple of days.
Then he drained the oil and, surprisingly, water came out.
“Now I know some of the more technical people in the audience might be saying ‘well, if water got into the engine, it had to get through the exhaust, and that’s right,'” he said.
“So we have to remove that exhaust, we have to remove the catalytic converters and the turbos.
“These are all going to be shot, I think we’re going to have to rebuild them.”
Tavarish had no illusions when he bought the car, he knew it would be a major restoration project.
But after getting his hands on the car, he realized what that would entail.
“It turns out that flooding a car is a real dirty job,” he said.
Tavarish then said he would “decontaminate everything” to make it a little easier to work with.
“Number one, I want to make sure I don’t get any weird mold disease and stuff in this car, and number two, I just want the car to look like it cost a million dollars.”
