ISRAEL TOWNSHIP – One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a car crashed into a pond in Preble County early Sunday.
Just before 3 a.m., the Preble County Sheriff’s Office was called to a car in a pond on state Route 177, according to a news release.
When the officers arrived at the scene they found two people inside the car and under the water.

Officers along with firefighters removed the people from the car and began CPR.
An initial investigation found the car was traveling northwest on SR-177 when it went off the side of the road. It then traveled a few hundred feet across a field before coming to rest in a farm pond.
Both people were taken to Ft. Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.

The driver was later pronounced dead and the female passenger remains in critical condition, according to a news release.
The identities of the two passengers are pending notification of family, the sheriff’s office said.
As the car became submerged in water, multiple agencies were called to the scene, including crews from Camden, Medflight, College Corner, Butler County, Oxford, Gasper Township and Monroe.
