REDDING, CALIF. — A man who was arrested Thursday for driving a stolen vehicle has been arrested once again for vehicle theft, according to the Redding Police Department (RPD).
Stephen Love, 30, was reportedly found sleeping in a stolen car in the Bechelli Lane Motel 6 parking lot Saturday morning. RPD officers were able to arrest Love without incident and booked him into the Shasta County Jail, but this is far from the first time Love has been taken into custody by RPD; on Thursday, he spent just eight hours in the Shasta County Jail after being found in a stolen car.

RPD says this is the fifth vehicle Love has stolen this year. The department has previously said the Shasta County Jail has struggled to hold habitual offenders accountable due to understaffing as well as numerous changes to California’s sentencing guidelines.

RPD notes that there has been an increase in the number of stolen cars over the past year and urges residents to keep their cars locked and parked in well-lit areas to avoid potential thefts.
