NEW HAVEN – Local police say they have arrested a suspect in the homicide of a 39-year-old East Hartford man found near death at a Forbes Avenue car dealership Thursday morning.
Charles V. Brown Jr., 47, of Clinton, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a handgun without a permit, said Capt. Rose Dell, the department’s public information officer of New Haven Police. Brown was being held on $2 million bail, Dell said.
Patrol officers who responded to a used car dealership in the 270 block of Forbes Avenue at 11:06 a.m. Thursday discovered a male shooting victim at the scene, according to Dell . The victim was immediately taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, but he soon died from his injuries, Dell said. He was later identified by police as Juan Carlos Colon, 39, of East Hartford.
Detectives from the New Haven Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification investigating the fatal shooting conducted interviews and collected evidence, according to Dell. He did not provide any details on how Brown was identified as a suspect. The dates on the photos show he was arrested on Thursday.
Brown was arraigned Friday, according to Dell.
