PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver of a stolen car led Clark County deputies on a chase Wednesday night, authorities said, leading to a crash in Orchards, WA.
Late Wednesday night, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to a report of a man passed out in the driver’s seat of an unlicensed Ford Fusion parked on Northeast 52nd Court.
Clark County Fire & Rescue responders said when the fire engine arrived on scene, the driver took off and was seen driving erratically.
Clark County deputies said they found the vehicle going eastbound on Northeast 119th Street and when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver eluded them.
A second traffic stop was attempted a few minutes later, where the driver again eluded, officers said.
After the second stop attempt, an officer said he saw the man fail to take a curve and the vehicle hit a utility box.
The pursuit continued on foot as authorities said the driver fled the vehicle and crashed into a nearby shopping complex on Northeast 126th Avenue.
Air support was called and officers said they eventually spotted the man hiding between a fence and a row of plants, where he was eventually captured.
According to Clark County officials, the car had been reported stolen outside of Portland and there was evidence of illegal drug use inside.
The driver was taken to a hospital for minor injuries related to the crash, authorities said.
