CELINE has her own perfume cases, her own dog toys and even her own damn hydrofoil. Now CELINE has her own car and kicks proper ass.
Look, CELINE won’t be collaborating with an automotive giant anytime soon (I guess). Instead, he customized a vintage Moke car to create the one-of-a-kind CELINE Moke, a bespoke creation you’ll probably only see IRL if Hedi Slimane takes it for a spin in his adopted home of Saint-Tropez in the southeast . from France
Moke, for those who don’t know, is an automobile manufacturer that produces a type of small jeep-like car originally produced by the British Motor Company in the 1960s for military applications.
However, like so many other pieces of vintage militaria, the Moke has been co-opted by mainstream culture and is now entirely free of the military industrial complex. Today, Moke cars are most popular among the stylish beach game, as their tiny scale, open-air designs, and surprisingly roomy seats make it easy to get in and out of, storing supplies from beach as needed.
French screen legend Brigitte Bardot, who still resides in Saint-Tropez, famously drives a mini Moke.
Since CELINE’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection was itself a celebration of the ease of Saint-Tropez, Slimane saw fit to create his own CELINE Moke, a physical manifestation of the luxurious key to beach liberation by CELINE SS23.
The resulting vehicle is painted a beautiful green, complementing the natural tan hue of the wicker seats and spare tire guard and untreated leather accents.
CELINE’s Triomphe logo is also featured throughout, reminding passers-by that no matter how cute your beach gear is, it will never outshine this little sprinter.
In an age where every luxury brand worth experiencing comes with custom rides, whether they’re high-end scooters or custom bikes (or the cases they come in), it’s nice to see CELINE ride the line between curiosity and the bona fide car.
Now please let me drive it.
