A driver was injured after a speeding car crashed into several parked cars at a car dealership in Lindenhurst and burst into flames, police said.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Lindenhurst Police Department responded around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday to Route 45 and Grand Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Lindenhurst Police Chief Thomas Jones said officers arrived to find several cars on fire in the southeast corner of the Ziegler Nissan parking lot.
An investigation showed a vehicle was traveling westbound on Grand Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle hit the median after passing through the Route 45 intersection.
The vehicle went airborne, struck a light pole and clipped a fire hydrant, Jones said.
He then drove into the car dealership’s parking lot and struck at least four vehicles parked in the lot.
Jones said all the vehicles were engulfed in flames after the crash.
Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Gurnee Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire and treat the driver of the vehicle.
Paramedics transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Jones said. No other injuries were reported.
Jones said the driver is believed to have been arrested by the Gurnee Police Department.
Attempts to reach the Gurnee Police Department were unsuccessful Wednesday afternoon.
