Three people were killed when a train and a car collided near the northern German city of Hanover, police said on Sunday.
The accident happened around 4:50 local time (03:50 GMT) at a level crossing north of Neustadt am Rübenberg, near the A6 motorway, on New press reported
A police spokeswoman said a regional train plowed into the car “at full speed” after the vehicle had entered the train tracks.
He said the barrier was down at the time of the crash, but did not cover the entire road.
According to the police, the dead were the three young occupants of the car.
The driver was 22 years old and the passengers were women of the same age.
Only one of the 42 passengers and railway workers on board the train was slightly injured.
A large emergency contingent was dispatched to the scene.
Deutsche Bahn said the line between Hanover and Nienburg (Weser) would remain closed until lunchtime.
