NASCAR’s Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega had to stop Saturday when driver Blaine Perkins’ car flipped six times in a terrifying crash.
During the second leg of the race, Perkins was hit by Jade Buford and the collision caused Perkins’ car to go airborne and then roll down the track.
Although he was able to climb out of the wreckage, Perkins was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
A wheel also came off Perkins’ car during the crash, bouncing off the hood of Kaz Grala’s car as Dexter Stanley spun hard into an inside wall. Stanley’s career was over, but Grala continued.
The crash caused a nearly 12-minute shutdown for NASCAR to make repairs to the track’s surface.
Perkins’ terrifying crash was actually the second time the race was red-flagged, as Daniel Hemric’s car ended up on its roof in a crash in the first overtime.
In that incident, there were three laps left in regulation when Hemric, in the lead, drove down the track to block Sheldon Creed and the contact resulted in a massive crash.
Jeb Burton won his second Xfinity Series race at Talladega, Creed finished second and Parker Kligerman was third as Chevrolet swept the podium.
Cole Custer in a Ford was fourth followed by four other Chevy drivers. Kaz Grala, 24th, 11 laps down, was the best Toyota driver to finish
Burton won in double overtime for Jordan Anderson Racing, who took their first career win as Burton crossed the finish line.
