POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a stolen car crashed into a gun range Friday morning in Pompano Beach.
The crash happened around 2:50 a.m. at Declaration Defense in the 1300 block of Southwest First Court.
Video captured at the scene shows a huge mess left behind as the vehicle appears to have driven into the building. Glass could be seen strewn about, along with what appeared to be ammunition boxes and other debris.
According to authorities, an officer patrolling the area called in the accident and a perimeter was established around the building.
“During the investigation, officers learned that the unoccupied vehicle was a stolen car used to enter the establishment and that several items had been stolen,” a BSO spokesperson said in an email.
An employee at the gun range told Local 10 News there is likely some structural damage inside the business.
“I think this is kind of ridiculous, what happened here, you know, but I’m pretty shocked,” a patron named Sean told Local 10 before leaving due to the temporary closure. “I’m sorry to hear it’s broken and stuff. I hope they get things together and get it going.”
Employees are now working to clean up the mess he left behind.
Anyone with more information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
