Below deck sailing yacht star Colin MacRae has hit back at fans who branded the recent engine failure shown in the current season as ‘scripted’, putting the skepticism to rest once and for all.

So when recent footage depicted what Colin describes as a “catastrophic failure” of the ships’ engines, many fans commented on how scripted it looked.

Now Colin MacRae, whose role on the show is the yachts chief engineer, has taken to Instagram to clear up any speculation about a staged show, detailing exactly what went wrong with the boat and how the incident was “catastrophic ” and totally real. .

The footage, albeit short snippets, shows the engine failing to turn on one of the show’s largest yachts, with Colin assessing the fault and looking clearly stressed.
However, soon after, fans took to the comments to show their doubts, with some claiming that the engine failure was scripted.

So Colin issued a response to the skepticism on Instagram. He said: “I can totally understand why people would think this is staged, but I can assure you that a catastrophic failure of this magnitude almost cost us the season.”

He went on to explain how “the crew literally gets on the boat a day before the first charter, and I had no reason to believe the engine wasn’t going to work,” which explains his frustration in the clips.

Later in the explanation, he fully addresses the failure, stating that along with nearly costing the crew the season, “it was the hardest season of my life,” meaning we’ll likely see a lot more stress and a lot of raises and lows for the beloved star.
Many fans of underdeck sailing yachts took to the comments to express their understanding and agreement, with one explaining that “no one who has ever owned any kind of boat would believe it was staged for a second! The problems of the engine are too expensive, stressful and risky to joke about.”

Others showed their support by stating that they “Never believed it was staged”, while others highlighted “the true fear on your face and Captain Glenn’s”.
From the footage and Colin’s statement, it’s clear that the Sailing Yacht crew has a lot to deal with in season four, with the engine failure only scratching the surface.
