Italian energy services contractor Saipem has completed the installation of offshore foundations for wind turbines at Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm.
Saipem said it completed the installation of 114 offshore wind turbine foundations, part of the development of the Seagreen offshore wind farm, located about 27 kilometers off the Angus coast in the North Sea.
The wind farm is being developed by Seagreen Wind Energy, a joint venture between SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies, and Saipem has executed the activities on behalf of client Seaway7.
Seagreen, once completed, will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm and will have the capacity to power more than 1.6 million homes, Saipem said.
The installation of the foundations has been carried out by the Saipem 7000 vessel, described by the company as one of the largest semi-submersible crane vessels in the world, during a series of offshore campaigns.

Saipem 7000 completed installation work just days after marking a major milestone with the installation of the world’s deepest wind turbine base, surpassing Seagreen’s previous record from October 2022 Foundation number 112 was installed at a depth of 58.6 meters, while the previous record was 57.4 meters. meters, Seagreen outlined.
The first power at the Seagreen wind farm was already achieved in August 2022 and the offshore wind farm is expected to enter commercial operation at the end of this year.
