Which new vehicles will be the hardest for new car shoppers to find this spring? An updated Kelley Blue Book (KBB) report reveals the five hardest vehicles to find. They now include two Subaru SUVs, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2023 Subaru Forester.
The 5 cars that are hardest to find
Data from KBB and Cox Automotive shows the top-selling vehicles for the 30 days ending March 27 and are in the shortest supply. Models with the lowest inventory are the Kia Telluride, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Camry and Subaru Forester. Unfortunately, these models will be the hardest to find for new car shoppers this spring.
Why are both Subaru SUVs popular with new car buyers?
There are three reasons; number one, they are affordable. As new car prices and interest rates rise, the Crosstrek and Forester are Subaru of America’s most affordable SUVs. Check the prices of each model below.
What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek?
The 2023 Crosstrek comes in six trim levels for US customers. Base trim is priced at $24,870, Premium ($26,020), Special Edition ($27,970), Sport ($29,220), Limited ($30,720) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($38,070). Prices include destination and shipping ($1,225).
What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Forester?
The 2023 Forester comes in six trim levels; The Base Forester starts at $27,620, Premium ($30,620), Sport ($32,190), Limited ($34,300), Wilderness ($35,245) and Touring ($37,720). Price includes dealer commissions ($1,225).
The second reason is that the Crosstrek and Forester are fuel efficient. Gasoline prices have risen this spring, with the average cost now at $3.69 per gallon for regular unleaded gas, according to AAA data.
What is the gas mileage of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek?
The Subaru Crosstrek uses direct injection in its new 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine and gets 27/34 mpg city/highway and 29 mpg combined. The 2.0-liter engine achieves 28/33 mpg and 30 mpg combined with the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), contributing to better mileage.
What is the gas mileage of the 2023 Subaru Forester?
The Subaru Forester comes with standard four-wheel drive and gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined and 26/33 mpg city/highway. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine powers the Forester.
The third reason is that the Crosstrek and Forester come standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive system for all-weather, off-road performance. And it doesn’t hurt fuel efficiency.
Affordability, fuel mileage, and all-weather, off-road capability are the reasons why the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and 2023 Subaru Forester are among the five hardest new models to find this spring.
If you can’t find a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, you can order the new 2024 model. Here’s the latest configurator website to see which trim and option packages are best for you. The price is shown below.
For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited and Wilderness trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).
The 2024 Crosstrek Premium starts at $27,440, Sport ($30,290), Limited ($32,190) and Wilderness ($33,290). Price includes destination and shipping charges ($1,225, $1,295 for Wilderness).
The 2024 Crosstrek Base and Premium trim levels will arrive this spring for North American customers. The 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Limited will be available this summer. The 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness arrives this fall for US customers.
What is the inventory outlook for Crosstrek and Forester?
We expect 2024 Crosstrek inventory to improve as the Sport, Limited and Wilderness trim levels are now manufactured at the Lafayette, Indiana plant. Additionally, new Forester inventory should also improve as Subaru has increased production space at its assembly lines in Gunma, Japan.
