Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – On April 12, 2023, officers with the Missoula Police Department were notified by the US Marshalls that a man had an active $40,000 warrant and had just been seen entering a blue SUV in the city of Missoula. An officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which did not have a license plate. The man was arrested by the marshals.
The driver was identified as Kasey Hugs, 38, and the vehicle was registered to him. Officers observed another passenger who was identified as 29-year-old Aubrey Goetz. Goetz and Hugs were both on probation and Missoula Probation and Parole was called to assist. A probation officer arrived and wanted to perform a probation search on the vehicle.
During a probation search of Goetz’s person, the probation officer found a bag of white crystalline substance and a glass tube with residue. Goetz said the items came from her purse and were a pipe and methamphetamine. Goetz claimed she was unaware of the items, and someone must have put them in her bag, but that she would take the blame.
According to court documents, the substance was later tested and allegedly tested positive for Meth in a TruNarc device. The probation officer also found a jacket behind the driver’s seat that contained Hugs’ credit card, along with a scale, $800 in cash, white crystalline substances consistent with methamphetamine, and a jar of blue pills marked M30, compatible with fentanyl.
At this point the search has been stopped and the vehicle has been secured for follow-up. An officer later weighed the meth at 36.5 grams and counted the suspected fentanyl pills at 421.5. According to the officer, this amount of pills is believed to exceed the amount for personal use.
Goetz and Hugs were arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. Hugs is currently charged with criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession with intent to distribute. Goetz is currently charged with one count of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
