The wait is finally over as the MG Cyberster, the British automaker’s all-electric sports car, made its world debut today at the Shanghai Motor Show. The Cyberster pays homage to the British automaker’s roots with its zero-emissions powertrain that makes it the electric equivalent of the popular Mazda MX-5. Fortunately, the Cyberster will be available outside of China, with its mainland European and UK market launch set for summer 2024, making it an interesting addition to the electric sports car market.
While the production version of the MG Cyberster has toned down some of the styling cues from its 2021 concept, it still looks incredibly sporty and exotic. Official photos reveal the Cyberster’s Lamborghini-style scissor doors, which make a bold statement and add to the roadster’s unique character. The car’s aggressive nose and bumper intakes, fender-mounted headlights and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels further accentuate its sporty design. Toned fenders add to the muscular look of the car, completing the impressive visual appeal of the Cyberster.

The profile photo of the MG Cyberster offers a closer look at some of the roadster’s key design elements, including the retractable fabric roof in action and the black-finished rear deck with MG badging. While the company hasn’t released many images of the ‘Kammback’ tail, we can see the distinctive LED taillights mounted on the intakes and the twin diffuser.
Inside the cabin, the red-themed two-seater cabin features a curved digital panel and touch controls on the driver-facing center console, giving the car a futuristic feel.
According to Carl Gotham, director of advanced design at MG’s design studio in Marylebone, London, the new Cyberster marks the start of a “new chapter” for the automaker. He emphasized the importance of a style that is respectful of the brand’s rich heritage, while pushing the boundaries of modern design.
While MG has yet to release the Cyberster’s official specs, earlier documents from China’s MIIT provide some details about the upcoming roadster. According to these documents, the Cyberster measures 4,535 mm (178.5 in) long, 1,913 mm (75.3 in) wide and 1,329 mm (52.3 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm (105.9 in) and a weight of 1,850 kg 4,079 lb).
The Cyberster will be available in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD configurations, with outputs of 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS), respectively. Power will come from a lithium-ion battery pack manufactured by parent company SAIC, although the exact capacity is not yet known.
With these impressive power figures, the Cyberster is expected to deliver strong performance and acceleration, although details on the car’s range and other performance metrics are yet to be revealed.
