Sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 increased and are almost as high as in the case of the Ioniq 5.

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai and Genesis brands) reports that its global vehicle sales in March totaled 381,885 units, up 21 percent from a year ago. During the first quarter of 2023, the company sold just over 1 million vehicles (up 13% year-on-year).
Most important, however, is how quickly the group is ramping up sales of plug-in electric cars.
Last month, combined wholesale shipments (closely related to production) of Hyundai and Genesis plug-in cars totaled *34,125 (up 110 percent year-over-year), according to Hyundai Motor Company. We estimate that it is about nine percent of the total volume.

**Hyundai’s sales report includes sales figures from plants in South Korea, Europe (Kona Electric and Tucson PHEV), Indonesia (Ioniq 5), and plants in China and India (both small), as well as in the United States. .
The data indicated that wholesale shipments of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles hit monthly records. In the case of BEVs, they are more than 28,600 for the first time, while in the case of PHEVs, they are more than 5,400 units.
The company itself reports more than 24,000 sales of all-electric vehicles (compared to more than 28,000 wholesale shipments).

For reference, in 2022 Hyundai Motor Company sold more than 240,000 plug-in electric cars (up 45% year-on-year), including nearly 195,000 fully electric cars (up 56%).
Hyundai brand
The Hyundai brand, which accounts for the majority of the company’s plug-in car sales, saw a 114 percent year-over-year increase in wholesale plug-in car shipments to more than 31,000. All results are a record.

For reference, by 2022, wholesale shipments of Hyundai plug-in electric cars totaled more than 221,000, including more than 175,000 all-electric cars.
While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 remains the top model in Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is now the second most popular all-electric model with a new record result in March. It appears that production of E-GMP based models exceeded 18,000 last month.
In 2023, the lineup will be joined by the Ioniq 5 N – “the company’s first high-performance electric vehicle, with details to be announced in the coming months.” Also on the way is the new Kona, which will have an all-electric version.

Brand Genesis
In the case of Genesis, the brand’s wholesale shipments of all-electric cars (GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80) totaled 2,750 (up 75% year-over-year). This includes local production of nearly 200 electrified GV70s in the US.
