GOMEL OBLAST, April 11 (BelTA) – Personnel of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus have been deployed to strengthen the southern border in several places in Gomel Oblast, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian army continues to comply with the instructions of the head of state to strengthen sections of the southern border. The president has repeatedly raised the issue of the security and protection of the country taking into account the events in neighboring countries. A set of measures are being implemented along the country’s southern border to counter potential threats.
Special operations forces command units are busy carrying out missions in designated areas of Gomel Oblast. The main goal is to ensure the safety of the citizens of Belarus, stop border crossings and suppress the smuggling of weapons and ammunition. Important facilities, including roads and flyovers, are now guarded.
According to Vadim Bobilevich, a deputy commander of the special operations forces brigade, the unit has been tasked with reinforcing sections of the southern border. “We have been here for a long time. Thanks to the fuel and lubricants, as well as the food we carry, we are ready to carry out our assigned missions in autonomous mode. We are deploying the relevant guard elements with this in mind. Our staff work at a road checkpoint where vehicles and people are checked and inspected. The military do their job professionally. This is not something new for us. In addition, the classes aimed at improving the professionalism and combat readiness of our units are regularly made on a permanent basis,” he said.
For example, while controlling people and transport at the road checkpoint, the men take into account the experience of the wars in Chechnya, peacekeeping operations in Lebanon and Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine This is why so much attention is paid to vehicle inspections. Vehicle electrical equipment is turned on to rule out terrorist attacks. In other countries, explosive devices were set off by shutting down an electrical circuit in the vehicle. That’s why at the roadside checkpoint, military personnel spend time checking the operation of the headlights, windshield wipers, horn and windows of the cars. They open the vehicle doors, the trunk and the hood. It only takes a few minutes to check a vehicle.
The support team provides 24/7 aerial surveillance via drones. The drones are equipped with thermal cameras. They can fly up to 8 km away at altitudes of up to 500 m. This drone can fly at speeds of up to 70 km/h in favorable weather. The images are analyzed in real time and additionally at headquarters.
As part of the assignment, military personnel stay in contact with the local population. “The residents of the nearby towns have already gotten used to us. They understand the situation in the neighboring country. They know that our brigade can let them work in peace and let their children study in peace. We have this understanding. And the military understands that today they guarantee the safety not only of the Motherland, but of their parents and close people,” emphasized Vadim Bobilevich.
There is also quite a lot of work going on in the field dining room. “I cook for the boys as I cook for my own children. From the bottom of my heart,” said servicewoman Natalya. The men remark that this is probably why the food is indistinguishable from home cooking.
Belarusian military personnel rotate in and out of this post. The Armed Forces of Belarus do not threaten anyone, but reliably protect the homeland, its sovereignty, territorial integrity and guarantee peace on the Belarusian land, representatives of the brigade explained.
The source emphasized that it is not the first time that special operations forces have been deployed to protect the state border. The military is ready to defend the border whenever necessary.
