The proposed pollution standards call for zero emissions.
A new rule proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency would require 67% of new passenger vehicle sales by 2032 to have zero emissions. At the same time, they have introduced higher pollution standards for petrol-powered cars.
The rule furthers President Biden’s goal of having 50 percent zero-emission passenger car sales by 2030. That would also include battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles. It could boost sales of electric vehicles by dramatic numbers. Last year only 5 percent of new car sales were electric vehicles.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan said, “By proposing the most ambitious pollution standards ever for cars and trucks, we’re making good on the Biden-Harris administration’s promise to protect people and the planet, ensuring critical reductions in hazardous air and climate pollution and ensuring significant economic savings. benefits such as lower fuel and maintenance costs for families.”
The EPA rule is not likely to be adopted before next summer.
As the Lord directs, pray with us…
- For Administrator Regan as he implements rules to meet the President’s carbon emissions goals.
- That the president and his administration will seek God’s direction regarding environmental management.
