Advanced drilling simulation technology provider Drilling Systems, part of 3t Energy Group, has secured a contract with Malaysia’s national oil and gas company Petronas.
The contract was awarded as part of a competitive bidding process as Drilling Systems offers its innovative Drill the Well on Simulator (DWOS) learning technology to support Petronas’ training and development program over a period of three years, said Drilling Systems in a company. statement
Drilling Systems noted that the project was strengthened by its collaboration with local partner Eftech Energy Solutions, a Malaysian company that provides real-time operations services and drilling digitization.
According to the company, the use of immersive learning technologies within training programs is widely proven to deliver better outcomes for both the employee and the employer, including knowledge retention and increased engagement , and this very specific technological development will instill more confidence in the crew’s ability.
Drilling Systems’ digital twin technology will also be used to mimic the exact rig environment to allow customization of equipment and control systems based on the specific rig being used for the well.
DWOS complements the already well-established Drill Well on Paper (DWOP) exercises that use Drilling Systems’ mobile On-the-Rig (OTR) simulator, the company said.
“We are delighted to be working with Eftech to deliver a series of DWOS to support Petronas crew training. The training will provide a fantastic tool to mitigate drilling risks and human error when preparing crews for a range of potential safety-critical scenarios and non-routine operations. DWOS’s tailored approach will enable highly specific data to be interpreted and transformed into virtual reality, enhancing crew technical excellence and improving overall industry safety” , said Max Wyndham, head of business development at Drilling Systems.
“This contract is a testament to 3t Energy Group’s strong track record and ability to use transformative technology to improve training in the energy sector. We look forward to working closely with the Eftech and PETRONAS teams in a unified mission to increase competition technique, operational safety and crew performance,” added Clive Battisby, COO of Drilling Systems.
