SANDUSKY, Ohio – A Lorain woman was airlifted to a Cleveland hospital after being ejected from her car in an early Monday morning crash in which investigators believe drug use was a factor.
Maria Camacho, 41, was first taken to Firelands Hospital in Sandusky before being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the State Highway Patrol. The patrol says his injuries were life-threatening.
A news release from the patrol says a 2000 Lincoln passenger car, driven by a 35-year-old Lakewood man, was northbound on Columbus Avenue around 1:03 a.m. Monday when it leave the right side of the road. The car hit a utility pole, ejecting Camacho, before it hit a house north of Jefferson Street.
Another passenger in the car, a 46-year-old Lorain woman, was taken to Firelands Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The patrol says no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. There were no reports of injuries from the residents of the home that was hit by the car.
Drug impairment is a suspected factor in the crash, according to the patrol. The accident remains under investigation.
