Hydrogen is one of five growth drivers in BP’s energy transition, BP said in a statement posted on its website in December last year. Globally, BP is working on a significant and growing portfolio of options for the development of green and blue hydrogen projects in advantaged markets worldwide, including potential developments in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, the Middle East Medium, USA and Australia.
By 2030, BP aims to produce between 0.5 and 0.7 million tonnes per year of mostly green hydrogen, while selectively pursuing blue hydrogen opportunities, according to BP’s site. To achieve this, the company is accessing new segments such as the mobility and industrial sectors, including the decarbonisation of its own refineries, he adds.
