The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is not only an incredible car to look at, but is also said to be absolutely monumental to drive, delivering cornering speeds once only achievable by a GT3 racing car.
This video, however, does not focus on the car’s cornering abilities. Instead, it shows what the definitive version of the 992-generation 911 looks like to launch off the line while letting us hear the engine in all its glory.
The new 911 GT3 RS is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that shares many of its components with the standard GT3 engine. However, it has new cams, custom cylinder heads and a new intake system. It’s good for 518bhp and mated exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends all the power through the rear wheels.

While testing the car, French magazine Motorsport Magazine was able to push it to 163 mph (263 km/h) without the Porsche even skipping a beat. Interestingly, the car tops out at 184 mph (296 km/h), which is actually 14 mph (22 km/h) slower than the GT3. This is due to the amount of drag generated by its new aerodynamic elements.
In fact, the 911 GT3 RS’s crazy wings, splitters and other aerodynamic add-ons combine to produce 1,896 pounds (860 kg) of downforce at 177 mph (285 km/h). This downforce makes the car an absolute beast on a track, so much so that it holds the record for a naturally aspirated production car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife with a time of 6:49.328 on the year past
