Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India on Friday said it was recalling around 2,000 units of CB300R bikes due to a manufacturing defect in the right engine crankcase cover.
The voluntary recall covers the 2022 model year CB300R.
The company has identified that due to an improper manufacturing process of the right engine crankcase cover, there is a possibility that the sealing plug will come off due to the low holding force caused by the heat of the engine, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said in a statement.
That could cause the sealing plug to come off and the engine oil to splatter, he added.
In the worst-case scenario, oil sticking to hot motorcycle parts can cause a fire, its contact with tires can cause skidding or injure the rider due to its hot temperature, the company said.
“As a precautionary measure, replacement of the affected parts will be carried out at BigWing dealers across India from 15th April 2023. The replacement will be free of charge irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle,” he added.
The company, through its BigWing dealers, will proactively notify customers by call/email/SMS for their vehicle inspection from Friday, he said.
