Energy sector training provider AIS Survivex has appointed an oil and gas expert to highlight the benefits of training people in their everyday working environment on board oil and gas assets.
AIS Survivex said Chris Redgrave would take on the role of business development manager responsible for its extensive portfolio of onboard training and skills both in the UK and internationally.
Onboard training involves teaching people in their offshore work environment, using the exact operating equipment, company procedures and environment they are familiar with, AIS Survivex said in its statement.
This type of training is known to be highly effective, as well as convenient and cost-effective, according to the company. In its statement, AIS Survivex stated that it had so far provided onboard training to more than 150 assets on seven continents of the world over the past decade.
Redgrave has worked in oil and gas throughout his 18-year career. Initially starting out as a roustabout in the North Sea, he worked aboard oil rigs for two years before moving into a business development role with downhole casing experts Apex Tubulars, AIS Survivex said.
Redgrave was responsible for establishing a new South American office for the Petroleum Pipe Company and later moving to East Africa with the Japanese trading firm Marubeni-Itochu Steel Oceania. During this period, he was responsible for securing several high-profile multi-million dollar contracts. He returned to Aberdeen in 2017 enjoying business development roles with Oceaneering, Tenaris and Trident Marine Systems before taking up the role with AIS Survivex, the company said.
According to the company, Redgrave’s priority will be to familiarize himself with AIS Survivex’s extensive product range, which includes more than 500 training and competency courses approved by the world’s leading accreditation and standard-setting bodies. Redgrave will also promote technologies such as Drilling Systems’ On-The-Rig Drilling Simulator, a mobile simulator that makes drilling and well control training highly realistic, AIS Survivex said.
“When they are on board in their work environment, people are usually very engaged in the training and assessment process and very focused. Being comfortable in their environment and knowing the systems and procedures inside out means they can focus much more in instruction,” Redgrave said, adding that people also learn alongside peers, which helps with communication and building strong teams.
“The benefits for the customer are endless. In addition to impressive cost reductions, our multidisciplinary instructors can work on platform operations, using downtime to train while also achieving incredible time efficiency,” Redgrave added.
