April Fools’ Day, celebrated annually on the first of April, is usually a light-hearted and mischievous occasion punctuated by pranks, pranks and good-humoured banter. Large organizations often engage in deceiving others, creating an atmosphere of fun and (hopefully) harmless deception. Of course, it’s annoying when you fall in love. But it’s also fun to see what companies can come up with next. E-bike companies and the larger micromobility industry often have fun getting in touch with their inner joker (remember the pedal-powered papamobile?!), and this year was no exception. Here are some of the fun and upbeat new ads from around the e-bike and micromobility world.
We’ll be updating as we find more, and feel free to send me any you find today (contact info in author info below article).
Magnum’s human powered bike
Here in the e-bike industry we are often so focused on the latest batteries or the most innovative new motors that we can sometimes forget our roots. Popular e-bike company Magnum Bikes wants to make sure we all remember where we came from with the “launch” of its new human-powered e-bike.
Called the Navigator Infinite, Magnum says the bike can achieve more than 100 miles (160 km) of range. I guess “infinity” really is at least 100!
Electric scooter with hydrofoil Apollo Flamingo
Electric hydrofoil surfboards are already awesome, but Canadian electric scooter company Apollo looks set to one-up the competition with its new Flamingo.
This electric scooter with seat functions as a personal electric jet ski complete with hydrofoil for a more efficient ride.
Complete with an elusive IP69 rating, the Apollo Flamingo even comes with a high-pressure water gun to blow away your friends or foes. Because when reality no longer matters, why not?!
Muc-Off releases intimate lubricant
Muc-Off is a brand of bicycle cleaning products known, among other things, for its various bicycle lubricants.
I’ve tested the company’s bike cleaners as well as their dry and wet chain lube for various riding conditions.
But now it looks like the company is branching out into another industry that’s a little more, err…intimate.
With the launch of Personal Lubricant for adult activities, Muc-Off wants to be there for you, no matter what you’re riding.
Although perhaps the company said it best, explaining that they “worked long and hard to develop a deep penetrating lubricant that fills that sweet spot between smoothness and abrasion. With our bike lubricants, the The goal is to achieve zero friction, but after round, after round, after round of internal testing, we’ve found that friction is vital to achieving a satisfactory result..“
Well there you go.
JackRabbit Micro Microbike for babies
You may already know JackRabbit from the company’s small electric seat scooter, often referred to as a microbike.
But now JackRabbit is announcing an even smaller version… for babies!
As the company explained:
“The JackRabbit micro ebike just got even more micro! Introducing the JackRabbit micro ebike for babies. Why did we create a micro ebike for babies? Because research shows that babies can’t walk (or pedal). Now your baby can experience the joy of mobility, months before they take their first step. Get your baby a micro micro ebike today!”
Volcon UNT single wheel electric motorcycle
You’ve heard of the Volcon GRUNT. Now look at the Volcon UNT.
The new vehicle ditches the GRUNT’s two fat tires and instead offers just one. You’ll be perpetually doing a wheelie…or else!
Charge your electric car with pedals
If you thought traditional fast chargers were too slow, well then FastNed he says they have the solution. And it just so happens to be connected to your feet.
The company is promoting its new 750kW fast charger known as Bike Boost which is powered by pedaling. They claim it can fill the electric car battery in just 5 minutes.
This is more than a Wheaties breakfast…that requires eating an entire Wheaties truck!
Radio Flyer’s new air travel
We’ve been more drawn to Radio Flyer’s e-bikes lately, but maybe it’s time to rethink wheeled travel. Instead, Radio Flyer has announced a new air service known as Radio FlyAir.
It’s not just a Radio Flyer airplane, though. The entire airline seems to have been given the red carriage treatment, with the luggage racks in the carriages and the children walking through the terminal.
Best Electric Bike April Fools Prank Ever?
Try as they might, I’m not sure any company can top what I think is the best April Fools product launch of all time: the RadFit from Rad Power Bikes.
The company launched a pretty impressive ‘Rad Penny Farthing’ big-wheel e-bike this year, but how can anyone top the RadFit?
Just as electric bikes have revolutionized the bicycle industry, they can also change the stationary bike industry. At least that’s what Rad suggested with his electric exercise bike.
I don’t want to kill this one, so just watch the short video below to get the full effect. I promise it’s worth it.
