ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The weather is slowly warming up in New Mexico, but you don’t want it to get too hot before you give your car some attention.
April is actually National Spring Car Care Month and also a time when many are planning their next road trips. This means that it is important to make sure that the car is in perfect condition.
First: your battery
“You want to test it, twice a year anyway, but you definitely want to test it before you start hearing the clicking,” said Albert Reyes, general manager of Advance Auto Parts in Albuquerque.
At this point, your car won’t get very far. Fortunately, many sites will test your battery for free.
Second: the wiper blades
You want to make sure that the leaves are not cracked or broken. Mother nature is often to blame for spoiling them.
“In Albuquerque, yes, because of the dirt, the dust, the cold, the heat, it’s very common here to change them more than twice a year,” said Advance CEO Lindsey Bullock.
Third: Your cabin air filter
Changing this filter is something you should do at least once a year, especially now. Having a dirty filter can make spring allergies worse by drawing pollen, dirt and other allergens into your car.
Finally: your AC
It can get very hot in New Mexico, especially during the summer, so having a working AC is essential. You definitely want to make sure everything is working as it should.
If not, talk to a trusted mechanic or try topping up your coolant.
