Aberdeenshire company ACE Winches, which describes itself as a major player in lifting, pulling and deploying solutions across a number of sectors, has returned to chairman Alfie Cheyne’s old school with a good cause. In other words, the company delivered 33 computers to senior students at Turriff Academy to equip a classroom in the school’s technology department.
This donation follows the company’s investment in new IT equipment, leaving a number of surplus machines which bosses wanted to make use of, the company said.
“Instead of sending the computers to landfill, we wanted to give something back to the community. All the machines are in perfect working order and have a lot of life, and it makes sense for the young people at the academy to use them.” said Valerie Cheyne, Director of Compliance at ACE Winches.
“Investing in our people is a core company value and we have a proud history of helping young people across the North East build strong careers through our modern graduate and apprenticeship programs in areas such as ‘engineering and administration,’ added Cheyne.
“We are delighted to be able to support students at Turriff Academy as they move towards the start of their own careers, and we are keen to work with more schools to help develop young people and prepare them as best as possible for in the world of work.” she said.
Cheyne added that he hopes some of the students the company supported will join its ranks in the coming years.
“They are all very high spec, better than some of our older Academy computers, and with this donation we can equip a whole classroom or library in the school,” added Turriff Academy headteacher Lee menzies “We will apply the new machines for a variety of different purposes to benefit our students’ learning.”
The donation from the Towie Barclay-based company comes after the company was announced as the main sponsor of one of Scotland’s biggest maritime events, the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival which takes place in Portsoy in July.
“While we have grown into an international business since our inception in 1992, we are a local company at heart and are committed to helping the areas where our employees live and work as much as possible,” added Cheyne .
