SAUGERTIES, NY (NEWS10) — A 15-year-old boy was taken to Health Alliance Hospital with minor injuries after riding an electric bicycle and crashing into a car on Thursday, March 16. The 15-year-old’s parents were notified. citation for failure to use a hand signal while riding a bicycle, and the driver of the car was ticketed for passing in a no-passing zone.
On March 16, at approximately 8:18 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Route 9W and Saugerties Square for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Police say after an investigation, they found the 15-year-old was riding an electric bicycle on Route 9W in the northbound center lane, directly in front of the car. Both attempted to swerve by turning left when the car went through a double yellow, and the 15-year-old turned left onto Saugerties Plaza. The two collided, knocking the rider off the bike and onto the pavement. Police say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
