LAKE WORTH BEACH – A person was shot in the stomach and injured while driving on a Florida highway Friday evening when the occupant of another car fired shots at the driver’s vehicle, the police.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said four people were in a vehicle passing the West Palm Beach Service Plaza around 7:56 p.m. Friday when another vehicle attempted to merge into their lane. The other vehicle pulled up next to the passenger’s car and fired several rounds into it, FHP said.
The driver of the vehicle was struck in the abdomen, but continued south until reaching the Yamato Road overpass west of Boca Raton. Troopers arrived on scene and the victim was taken to Delray Medical Center.
Three occupants of the victim’s vehicle gave sworn taped interviews in Spanish, officers said. The driver was in stable condition Saturday after surgery that revealed no organs had been punctured by the bullet, FHP said.
Troopers have a description of the shooter’s vehicle. FHP did not release further information about the shooting, including the victim’s name, age and gender.
